Elaine Thornton began serving as a member of the Relief Society General Advisory Council in August of 2022. She has also served as a stake Young Adult specialist; temple ordinance worker; counselor in ward Relief Society, Young Women, and Primary presidencies; ward Young Women president; and inner-city missionary in Salt Lake City.

Sister Thornton studied at Columbia Basin College and is the owner of a general contractor/design firm.

She was born in Kansas City, Missouri, to William B. Featherston and Frances Jones Featherston.

She is married to Erin Thornton, and they have three children. She lives in the Emigration Canyon Ward, Salt Lake Monument Park Stake, in Utah.
